Do You Remember?
When we were kids with small bodies and big dreams
November 15, 2020
Do you remember when we were kids with small bodies and big dreams?
When our time spent outside had not yet been replaced with smartphone screens?
When we had aspirations and seemingly unlimited potential,
When our lives were not determined by our education credentials,
When we laughed when we wanted; when we smiled all-day,
When the only thing we absolutely had to do, was to play,
When connecting meant real conversations with each other,
When we had to be in the same room to speak with one another,
When we had friendships instead of followers and we believed in integrity,
When we arrived on time instead of texting “I’m running late please wait for me”,
When we called the home phone and asked for our best friends,
When BFF meant best friend forever, together until the bitter end,
When we never had to think about whether people meant what they said,
When we trusted everyone and lived from our heart, not our head.
…
I remember when we were kids with small bodies and big dreams,
But when I look around today it makes me want to scream,
I am scared that we have been rapidly losing our direction,
And that technology is eroding our ability to foster human connection,
I hope that I am wrong and that all will be well,
As with so many things in life, it seems that only time will tell.
